Contributing to a more sustainable agriculture

Our group is leading the transition of the agricultural sector towards more sustainability and we achieve this with highly efficient products, based on the use of renewable raw materials and respect for the environment. We have succeeded in this through the research and development of bio-technology in this matter. We have activating, regulating, enhancing and protective technical solutions, of organic, biological, chemical and mineral origin. These interact with each and every one of the nutrients provided in our formulas, and also on those native to the soil.

All Fertinagro Biotech products and services are intended to promote solutions based on BIOECONOMY. We are the industry leader in the development of high technology, sustainable fertilisers and as such we have the means and tools to help farmers deal with the new regulatory frameworks with regards to nutrient vulnerable areas and sustainable nutrition.

In addition to the products we manufacture, we maintain an internal policy throughout all areas of the company to be 100% committed to sustainable development. We are aligned with European strategies (Green Pact, "Farm to Fork", etc.) and we are committed to be Carbon Neutral by 2050. Today 30% of our consumption is green energy and we have also integrated Sustainable Development Goals into our business strategy.

PILLARS OF ACTION

3 principles that define our Sustainable Policy

Efficiency

  • More from less. Our production strategy is designed to make the most of the nutrients in our products in order to reduce the units of fertiliser needed
  • Energy efficiency. Implementation plan for energy efficiency systems with ISO 50.001 certification
  • Reduction of water and our carbon footprint.

Circularity

  • Commitment to renewable raw materials. This even reaches up to 60% of the consumption of Raw Materials of renewable origin in some plants.
  • Commitment to recycling waste products. Already reaching 25% of the total raw materials used.
  • Circular production processes in all plants and objective: decarbonization.
  • Management of AEVAE and SDDR containers.

Security

  • Year after year we implement measures necessary to become a 100% safe company.
  • PRYMOR Plan for Risk Prevention and Organizational Improvement.
  • Plan of Excellence that guarantees the best health and safety parameters.
  • Plan Fertilud to achieve the safest and most ergonomic workplaces possible.

STRATEGIC IMPLICATION

Sustainable Action Plans

TAKING-CARE-OF-YOU PROJECT: With this new project, two areas of health are intended to be streamlined; firstly the evaluation of the working conditions of the employees; and secondly, the implementation of personal health consultations with our workers by certain professionals within the Group whenever they are required.

MANAGEMENT IMPROVEMENT: During 2022, management improvement has been reinforced with the start-up of a project to implement a culture of safety and protection and care for the environment carried out by Dekra. This is a key project to achieve an optimal level of protection for our collaborators and the environment. During this year, intense training and awareness work has been carried out for all those responsible at different levels, from the highest management to those responsible. of the operational collaborators, ensuring that shared responsibility is understood.

AWARENESS: Campaigns have begun to raise awareness and understanding. Our Healthy Living Habits Awareness Plan, aims to improve knowledge in occupational health and safety.

LIFE CYCLE ANALYSIS: One of our objectives is to conduct the Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) of various products and of the main manufacturing sites. In addition, we also aim to educate both businesses and customers about the importance of calculating the LCA of our products.

BIOECONOMY AND CIRCULAR ECONOMY: Our goals in this area are focused on creating new production lines oriented towards circularity and increasing the incorporation of materials from renewable resources. More than 11% of the consumption of materials is renewable and almost 25% is of recycled origin.

ORGANIC PRODUCTION: We seek to improve and increase our organic production to promote the new transition to CAP. To this end, the UNE regulations for new organic products are being implemented.

EFFICIENT FERTILISERS: The main purpose is to improve the quality of our products, for this reason, during 2022, the new fertiliser regulations have been implemented by the company Certrust. In addition, each year the objectives are met in the implementation of new R&D projects related to the efficiency of our products and services.

PACKAGING RECOVERY: Measures are being implemented to promote the reduction of packaging waste in the plants, encouraging bulk sales.

This plan seeks to establish GHG emission reduction targets, increasing the supply of renewable energy and improving the efficiency of processes. As well as the constant search for new sustainable solutions for our energy demand.

IMPROVEMENT OF ENERGY EFFICIENCY: Fertinagro has ISO 50.001 certification in three production plants with the highest energy consumption. Around 30% of our energy consumption is renewable and efficient. In 2022 all the energy and emission ratios have been improved, demonstrating an improvement in energy efficiency.

HYBRID FLEET: A new fleet of leasing vehicles has been established, replacing conventional ones with much more efficient and less polluting hybrid vehicles.

IMPLEMENTATION OF RENEWABLE ENERGY IN INDUSTRIES: Self-sufficiency and the increase in renewable energy generation systems are the main purposes to be developed in the Fertinergy Plan. For this reason in 2022 new photovoltaic installations have been carried out for self-generation of electrical energy (Fertinagro Tecnos Máxima , Fertinagro Fertesa, Fertinagro Sur, Leatransa) and thermal energy facilities with biomass (Fertinagro Fertesa, Fertinagro Sur, Fertinagro Nutrigenia).

This plan seeks to promote equal opportunities and inclusion in the work environment, as well as measure our social impact and find out the demands of our interest groups.

EQUALITY PLANS: In 2021 Equality Plans have been prepared by the business in accordance with the new regulations established in 2020. In this way, our aim is to complete the relevant remuneration audits in order to ensure that in our organisations there is no type of salary discrimination.

SOCIAL LIFE CYCLE ANALYSIS: From our Chair of Bioeconomy and Society, research and methodology proposals are being developed to measure the social impacts of our products and organisations on the environment.

MATERIAL ANALYSIS: During 2022, a material analysis was carried out on multiple interest groups (employees, customers, suppliers, associations, research centres, administration, universities...) with the aim of seeking the common interest of both business and the environment.

PROMOTE SUSTAINABLE FINANCING: Develop Sustainable Financing in different Group companies, establishing evaluations using the EcoVadis tool that allow us to measure our contribution to sustainability over time.

NEW CERTIFICATIONS: Obtain new approvals and certifications in sustainability within our sector, such as the Responsible Care Initiative.

UPDATE CORPORATE POLICIES AND STRATEGIES TO THE NEEDS OF THE ENVIRONMENT: Improve and publish the new Policies and Action Plans related to the contribution to Sustainable Development.

RESPONSIBLE MANAGEMENT OF THE SUPPLY CHAIN: Modify the supplier approval process to include new sustainability criteria, reapproving all suppliers of critical importance to the Group.

IMPROVEMENT ON THE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM Maintain current ISO certifications and continue adding new Group businesses to our management system.

DEVELOPMENT OF THE EUROPEAN TAXONOMY: Start Taxonomy processes in accordance with the new European guidelines based on new projects and sustainable actions of the Group

During the 2023 financial year, each of the Plans have been customised and specialised for each of the Group companies. The Plans in general of the Group are set-out below:
